Diabetes and Erectile dysfunction!!

Recent research revealed that men with diabetes have more possibility of developing erectile dysfunction as compared to men without diabetes. Unfortunately, it is true that around seventy percent of all diabetic men suffer from certain degree of hazardous erectile dysfunction.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence refers to the inability of an individual to achieve or maintain firmer erection during sex. Erectile dysfunction together with impotence can have harmful consequences on the psychological and physical well being of an individual.

During sexual stimulation, discharge of nitric oxide takes place at the nerve endings in the penis. Nitric oxide results in increased flow of blood and relaxation of the penile muscles. These penile muscles help in achieving firmer and better erections. However the increased level of blood sugar causes hyperglycemia condition which reduces the production of nitric oxide that prevents relaxation of muscles of the penis causing erectile dysfunction.

Moreover diabetes is associated with various nervous system disorders which are again a cause for erectile dysfunction. Because nervous system pass signals to the genital when you are sexually aroused. Also diabetes can affect flow of blood in the body resulting in erection problem.

Thus a person suffering form diabetes can reduce the chance of developing erectile dysfunction by following given below tips:

• Keep your blood sugar level in control
• Exercise regularly
• Quit alcohol and smoking
• Eat healthy food
